ALGERIEN 1930-1956, DRUCKPROBEN

Bodacious collection of PROOFS concerning Algerian stamps. In all there are 97 proofs (stage, atelier, inspection, color, artist p.) of rejected or accepted designs and overprints res. which are often signed by the artists, 3 artist composites, 6 unissued stamps, 6 color essays and 58 issued stamps. To mention particularly there is a part for the 1936 definitives series showing some different views of the country (Mi. #103/129, #141/46; Sc. #79/108, #124/25) with many proofs of different designs and colors. Also there are two nice parts for the 1942 Marshal Pétain issue (Mi. #194; Sc. #137) containing unissued designs, colors and denominations and in a similar manner for the 1949 airmail issue (Mi. #289; Sc. #CB3). Furthermore there are 6 stage proofs from 1936 for a not issued set of 3 stamps showing 3 different French painters, an artist composite proof for a not issued stamp "Medea" of the 1947 Coat of Arms series and an extensive part treats the 1954/56 definitives series "Bardo Museum" with many different proofs inclusive 2 composites. Finally there are 2 different colored artist proofs showing a not issued design (Rural Algerian House) perhaps for the 1955 Tipasa issue and there are 5 color essays (different colors) from 1958 in the basic design of the 1952 Military Medal Congress issue but with other inscriptions (the printed essays were destroyed after the de Gaulle's declaration on July 1958; only two full sheets of these essays survived). And there are still many other proofs for some different Algerian stamps. All items are mounted on 67 exhibit-ready sheets with nice arrangements and well-informed descriptions, please look at and take much pleasure in this outstanding collection!
